April Jubett grew up as one of those feral children you see running around bluegrass festivals. Her Dad, Bruce Hobart, played in bluegrass bands from his early twenties on, and his bandmates over the years have been like extended family. Being born into a bluegrass family in Maine is not a common occurrence, and April is not a common picker and singer. Learning the harmony parts to help her dad rehearse started her on the path of no return to bluegrass singing and harmonizing. Her dad taught her to sing at a young age and later to play guitar the way he plays, and her childhood home was generally pulsing with great music. She plays an old-timey style of guitar to lock in the rhythm for Hot Mustard on her dad's old 1965 Gibson J-45. Listen carefully for an occasional mother Maybelle style break at our shows. A fan of the old style duets, she and Bill blend perfectly as they sing songs inspired by their favorites, from Jody Stecher & Kate Brislin, to Bill and Charlie Monroe, to the hard driving Osborne Brothers. She's also written a bunch of songs, and has her own CD out.

Listen to April's solo project here, and get a Hobohemians fix too.

"April ... has a fine bluegrass voice which she complements with first rate rhythm guitar." --- Ted Lehmann Keene, NH
